Avec Carole…
Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, dit Taj Mahal, est le grand frère de Carole Fredericks. Il sera l'un des premiers à bénéficier des talents de choriste sur ses albums des années 1970-1980.
Taj Mahal participe à l'album « Springfield » en chantant sur le titre « You had it comin' » et lui conseillant de collaborer avec « The Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble » pour le côté gospel de l'opus.
Quand il vient se produire sur des scènes françaises, c'est tout naturellement que Carole le rejoint.

Il est né à New York le 17 mai 1942, mais a grandi, comme sa sœur, à Springfield, dans le Massachusetts.
Autodidacte, il a appris à jouer du piano, de la guitare, de l'harmonica, du tambourin, du banjo, de la lyre et de la guitare basse. Attiré par le blues à travers les disques qu'il écoutait, il commence par créer un groupe de quatre musiciens (The Rising Sons), avec lequel il interprète les classiques du blues. Puis en 1966, il décide d'entamer une carrière solo, et publie de nombreux albums.
Taj est un musicien paisible et envoûtant, aux formules musicales variées et inventives, et aux formules scéniques imprévisibles. C'est un véritable ethnomusicologue de la musique noire. D'ailleurs, dans West Indian Revelation, il se définit lui-même comme étant d'abord Africain, puis Jamaïcain, et enfin Américain.
Ce superbe chanteur à la voix voilée était très complice avec Carole, et elle avait d'ailleurs souvent participé aux albums de son frère en tant que choriste.
Quant à Taj, il poursuit sa brillante carrière de bluesman en se produisant régulièrement sur les scènes américaines et européennes.

Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, alias Taj Mahal, is Carole's big brother. He was born in New York on May 17, 1942, but grew up with Carole and the reste of the family in Springfield, Massachussets.
He learned to play the piano, the guitar, the harmonica, the tambourine, the banjo, the lyre and the bass guitar all by himself. He was attracted to the blues music through the records he was listening at home, and created his band with four other musicians (The Rising Sons), with whom he was singing the Blues classics. Then, in 1966, he started his own solo carrier, and has published many albums since then.
Taj is a peaceful and captivating musician. His musical and stage formulas are various, inventive, eclectic and unpredictable. He is a real "ethno-musicologist" of the Black music. Besides, in West Indian Revelation, he defines himself first and foremost as an Africa, then a Jamaïca, and then an American.
This singer, with his superb veiled voice, was very close to his sister Carole, and she had often worked as a chorist on his albums.
As for Taj, he carries on his brilliant carrier, regularly appearing on American and European stages.
